with Hettie Barnhill.

Alistair McCartney's highly praised, darkly comic first novel, The End of the World Book, is an encyclopedia of memories and obsessions. A 21st century updating of Oscar Wilde's revelatory lecture-performances, McCartney will read from the novel against a backdrop of projected images, leading the audience through his alphabetical guide to the apocalypse, acting as a tour guide through the highs and lows of life and culture, portraying everything from Franz Kafka to Freddie Krueger, Britney Spears to suicide bombers and beyond.
Tim Miller will also perform an excerpt from an evening-length solo work, My Queer Body.
Hailed as "funny, deeply moving, and utterly compelling" by The
Australia Telegraph, this piece has been performed throughout the
world, from The Sydney Mardi Gras in Australia to Schmidt Theater in
Hamburg, Germany.

A charismatic performer, his shows have the insightful hostility of the best comedy.--New Yorker
In his long-awaited Chicago debut, writer and humorist Mike Daisey issues a call to action in this humorous rebuke to the real and imagined ploys of the US Department of Homeland Security. With incandescent wit, Daisey folds personal narratives and eye-opening facts into the untold story of Sam Cohen, inventor of the neutron bomb, to expose just how much we're willing to give up for security.

"We are often in a state of performance, though the nature of the 'stage' on which we perform may differ..." (Scott Kelman)
Based
on the profound work of the late Scott Kelman this introductory
workshop explores the mystery of that performing space. We start with
the concept that everything is real, then begins the moment to moment
investigation of what is already taking place. From this perspective,
participants are guided through a series of original exercises that
integrate body & mindfulness in performance & offer methods for
dynamic expression in movement & voice. Absolutely no performance
experience is necessary.
Some primary areas of focus are:
Exploration of presence
Engaging the moment
Spatial elements and choreography
Strengthening voice with original sound techniques
Conjuring action, imagery & states of being
Generating and introducing text
Tapping into joy as the basic performing experience

The
return to a solo from 9 years ago. Originally performed by Carlos Pez
and directed by Lito Walkey, a cadence of motions built up a densely
layered portrait of a singular body. By re-articulating and
reactivating instances of the choreography for each other, they engage
in a conversation that includes a history of friendship and their
individual attention to the material. Events have new reasons to occur
between these two people, performing together.
