Contact Improvisation is a 36 year old frame of investigation of bodies moving through contact... sometimes quiet and introspective, sometimes
wild and athletic, it is less of a specific technique than a culture of
investigation with a diversity of approaches.

This workshop will have a very physical approach, looking at
balance/off-balance, interlocking of structures, flow of motion,
resistance and yielding, physical listening and soft power through use of alignment. A mixture of technical work and more open frames of
investigation creates a rich playground for the exploration of the poetry of bodies moving through physical interrelationship.

On the physical side, we practice moving through 3 dimensional space with another, into and out of the floor, supporting in easy lifts and how to move with ease and safety in an off-balance realtionship with another with a shared sense of mutual surrender into a flow of motion. We look at the interplay of will/intention and surrender/phsyical listening that shapes the dance within a sense of flow.

On the sensorial side, we tune into kinesthetic detail, finding an engaged sense of active curiosity with our bodies. We play with and live in those details to find a poetics of feeling in the body.

Body work, mind work, and a fair bit of sweat!
