Event Type:
Performance
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 8:30pm
details of event: Shows such as "Salome" at the Lyric Opera, the
Bellydance Superstars and "America's Got Talent" show how bellydance
has begun to penetrate mainstream American psyche. Bellyqueen, a
professional world dance company based in New York, offers the
opportunity to experience the best of the best in person. See what the
fuss is really about! Celebrating their tenth anniversary with this
tour, Bellyqueen stops in Chicago for one night only. The Midwest will
experience the glamour and mystery associated with "Raqs Sharki," the
"Dance of the East." Co-founded by bellydance veterans Amar Gamal,
originally from Cuba, and Kaeshi Chai, born in Brunai, the Bellyqueen
"Tenth Anniversary US Tour" will feature thirteen consummate dancers.
Known for their stunning and ornate costumes, the Bellyqueen dancers
have performed at Lollapalooza and the World Peace Awards in Bali, as
well as in Las Vegas. Featured on the morning news and in the Tribune
during last year's Chicago performance, the 2007 Bellyqueen show sold out.
