Summary

The contractual teaching artist is responsible for implementing evidence-based best practices in arts infused instruction working in partnership with teachers and schools through Changing Worlds’ Literacy and Cultural Connections school partnership program.  A contract with one school is approximately twenty five hours in length over a four week period.  The art specialist reports directly to the manager of arts learning.

Key Responsibilities:Teacher Professional Development & Support

Co-teach (e.g. coach, model, demonstrate, observe, and provide feedback) with participating classroom teachers on the implementation of Changing Worlds art curriculum

Use arts instruction best practices to help teachers become comfortable in implementing arts infused curricular practices.

Program Implementation

Work collaboratively with a team of 3-4 teachers and a literacy specialist to implement a fifteen session program that integrates family and cultural oral histories with writing and the arts to support student instruction and achievement in language arts, fine arts and social studies 

Program Evaluation & Reflection ·       

Work in collaboration with key staff from Changing Worlds and program evaluators to reach and measure program outcomes

Participate in bi-weekly / monthly organizational program team meetings to share best practices among schools, provide feedback to program managers and support ongoing program development efforts

 

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Qualifications:·

A Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art Education, Dance, or Drama ·         

Candidates with prior Teaching Artist experience will receive preference in the selection criteria ·       

The candidate must have an in-depth knowledge  of the arts and arts infused learning process and strategies to support student learning ·       

 Ability to work in a team oriented environment ·       

A commitment to arts education, literacy, multiculturalism and student-centered educational practices·       

Strong oral and written communication skills
