This workshop will focus on the study of traditional dance from West Africa, and different ways it is made and performed in relation to rhythm, time, and space. Explore notions of African dance and choreography that draws upon traditional movements. Willing students will perform the results of their movement research at the conclusion of the workshop.
Christian Bambara is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher from Burkina Faso
who formerly traveled with the company Bourgeon Du Burkina under the choreographic
direction of Salia Sanou. Christian has taught extensively at dance studios and universities in Africa and the USA. Recently, he has been artist-in-residence at the Chicago Cultural Center, Grinnell College, Holy Family Ministries, and a LinkUp Artist at Links Hall. In 2006, he formed CCBdance project with Celia Weiss Bambara.
