SITI Company Suzuki and Viewpoints Intensive Mondays-Fridays, July 7-18, 9:30am-1:30pm $595 ($300 non-refundable deposit due at registration) After a highly successful program at Links Hall in summer 2007, New York-based SITI Company returns to facilitate another two-week intensive workshop in the physical vocabularies and basic theories of the two distinct methods of actor training used in their productions: the Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method. One of the most important aspects of SITI's work is the teaching of their training techniques. It is through the dialogue between Suzuki and Viewpoints that the philosophy and technique of SITI Company is continually explored, revitalized, and articulated. The Suzuki Method is a rigorous physical and vocal discipline, created by renowned theater artist Tadashi Suzuki and his company, designed to focus the perceptive abilities and powers of the human body. The training strives to restore the wholeness of the body as a tool of theatrical expression, while heightening the actor's emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. Attention is on the lower body and a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor's breath control and concentration. The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the post-modern dance world. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie who broke down the two dominant issues performers deal with - time and space; she called her approach, the Six Viewpoints. Anne Bogart and SITI Company have expanded her ideas and adapted them for actors, allowing a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work. It develops flexibility, strength and articulation in movement while quickly making ensemble interaction possible. Participant Requirements: Prior knowledge of SITI Company's training and performances is necessary. The class demands physical agility, endurance, and conditioning. Please come dressed to move (no jeans, dresses or skirts). Shorts, tights, and leggings are necessary. Suzuki students will be required to wear socks during class and should wear clothing that shows the contours of the legs and upper hody (i.e., no baggy sweats). Viewpoints work will be conducted in bare feet. To register, please contact Erica Mott at 773-281-0824 or emott@linkshall.org Also available: One day introduction to Suzuki and The Viewpoints Method with SITI Company Saturday, July 12, 10am-2pm $40 nonrefundable payment due at registration The SITI Company is proud to offer a one-day workshop in their methods in conjunction with their two-week intensive at Links Hall.
