During the 1920's legendary Chicago newspaperman Ben Hecht, writing at the time for the Daily News, challenged himself to write a short story each day and publish it in the paper. He succeeded and the result has been compiled and published as "1001 Afternoons in Chicago" .
1,001 Afternoons in Chicago is an innovative collaboration between The Moving Architects and Accessible Contemporary Music exploring 12 of the stories through music, motion and visual imagery.
The work features music by Seth Boustead and Amos Gillespie, choreography by Erin Carlisle Norton, costumes by Lisa Stevens and video by Lou Karsen. Performers include dancers Erin Carlisle Norton, Carleen Healy, Stefanie Karlin, Liza Travis and musicians Alyson Berger (cello), Heather Boehm (violin), Tiffany Coolidge (bassoon), Amos Gillespie (saxophone), Matt Peters (percussion), Chris Ramaekers (conductor), KT Somero (clarinet) and Masumi Yoneyama (flute).
