Seeking Artists, Writers, and Activists for Salon Event

Submitted by Cortney on Sat, 01/05/2019 - 8:30pm

Third Estate Art is planning a salon-style event featuring artists and activists with the theme “Access to Care”—think health care, child care, mental health services, community support, and all the things we rely on to live good lives and that are increasingly hard to get. The event will be Saturday, February 23 at the Factory Theater substation and will feature 3-6 artists and activists. If you feel that your work touches on this theme, fictionally or non-fictionally, we'd love to talk to you!

The night of the event, you’d get 10-20 minutes to talk, read, sing, perform, or however you’d best like to present your work. The only restriction is that we can’t use drums or yell into a PA system, because we’ll be sharing a wall with another show. If you tell us what you’re doing ahead of time, we can set you up with whatever you need—a projector, display easels, a table, whatever. At the end, we’ll do a very light Q&A with everyone to bring the whole artists and activists working with the same theme together in people’s minds.

This is a paying gig, (because not paying artists sucks). It’ll either be $50 or 50% of the door take split evenly among the presenters, whichever is greater. If you fall more on the activist side of things, we could make a donation to the organization you represent--it's your choice.

To apply, send an email to thirdestateart@gmail.com and tell us about yourself and your work. Links and images are helpful. Experience is not required, and we love meeting new folx and introducing their work to an audience.
