RE: Claimed, Imagined, Purposed -Call for Artists/Junkers/Makers/Recyclers/Re-Purposers

July 21st – September 17th, 2017

Show Description

“RE” is an exhibition that will focus on 2D and 3D works created from previously used materials.  In a world where goods are easily acquired and just as easily abandoned, this show places a value on the artistic transformation of salvaged items.  Found objects, reimagined images, and “treasures” recused from curbside all have the potential for a new life as assemblage, mixed-media collage, or up-scaled furniture.  Reclaimed items can retain some of their previous form or be so heavily reworked as to no longer be identifiable.  If you are an artist who works in reclaimed, reimagined, or repurposed media, this is the show for you.

Entry Requirements

Open to all artists 16 and up in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

2D and 3D work is welcome.  All work must be original and comply with copyright laws.

All work must be ready for exhibition and hanging (as applicable).  The LCA reserves the right to refuse any entry and to withdraw any work from the exhibition at its discretion.

If shipped and return shipping is desired: return postage must be included in the shipping package of the artwork.  LCA will not be responsible for paying to ship work back.  Insurance of work in transit is the sole responsibility of the artist: the LCA will not accept any work damaged in transit.

The LCA does not insure work while on display.

The artist bears all responsibility for loss of, or damage to work. Work left beyond thirty days of the closing of the exhibit becomes the property of the LCA. Please provide notification in advance if someone else is picking up work for the artist.

Submission Guidelines

Artists may enter up to four works of art in the form of digital image files (no smaller than 800x800 pixels; no larger than 1500x1500 pixels) saved as a JPEG at the highest quality setting.  File names must correspond with the titles on the completed entry form. Portfolios of images may be submitted as email attachments sent to lemontcenterarts@gmail.comor on CDs (clearly labeled with the artist’s name) mailed to the Lemont Center for the Arts.  (If disc return is desired, include a SASE with the appropriate postage for a CD.)  Members of the Art and Culture Commission of Lemont will jury work.  In order to be reviewed, portfolios must be complete (images, application form, and fee) by the application deadline: June 30th, 2017

Exhibited work may be sold at the price specified on the entry form.  The LCA receives 30% of the total price. If work is not for sale, please indicate this on the entry form.  Accepted work may not be substituted or withdrawn before the close of the show.  The LCA reserves the right to photographically reproduce accepted entries for publicity purposes.
