ABOUT THE CHICAGO YOUTH ART EXHIBITION
In 2015 during my Junior year of high school, I read about how Kathleen Hanna opened up independent feminist art galleries during her college years. Reading that, I thought to myself I can do that!
Being a young artist with not a lot of experience in the professional art world, I wanted to create an opportunity for my fellow young artists to exhibit and sell their art. That's when I came up with the Chicago Youth Art Exhibit.
Most of the time, getting your art into a gallery can cost $30-$75, and is usually only to enter. Being young, it's hard to come up with that cash. I want to provide an open and fair application process that will afford a wide range of artists to be in this event. By charging $7, it helps to cover the cost of the event space as well as extra supplies we will need to set up the exhibit! It also qualifies the exhibit as “professional” and “legitimate”, something great to put on your resumes for art school/programs!
Since the success of last year’s gallery, a small group of Chicago teens have helped me to make the gallery happen again this year and continue the opportunities for young artists to showcase the best they’ve got!
Requirements: You must be currently living in Chicago (does not include Chicago suburbs)
You must be 13-25 years of age in order to apply.
You must pay the $7 application fee to be accepted. (Venmo, paypal or quickpay)
Note:This is an open art call, your art will be shown in the exhibition as long as you are eligible!
Please email the application to firstname.lastname@example.org as well as your prefered payment method!
