I am part of Ag47 and we are currently recruiting adult mentors for our youth artists (aged 11-17). We kicked off our 2019 season on Sunday, January 27th and had a few more young folks show up than we anticpated so we will be looking to fill one or two more mentor roles ASAP.
How it works: We are a multi-generational arts collective creating art together on Sundays from 2-5pm from January through April culminating in a gallery show in early May. We have amazing Creative Directors that build a curriculum around our season theme (this year it is Myth) and bring in guests artists of all backgrounds and disciplines to lead workshops where we all create art together. Our programming is COMPLETELY FREE to the youth artists. Each youth artist is matched with an adult mentor based on their interests, they are also encouraged to go seek out fun art activities together outside of the Sunday workshops (always with parent permission). Mentors are not required to do any preparation before the workshops, they are all guided by our creative directors and guest artists-- all you have to do is show up on time with an open heart and ready to share in some creativity with your mentee! We ask that you make as many of the workshops as possible, if you cannot attend a workshop we simply ask that you let both your mentee and leadership know as soon as you can.
Many of our mentors come to Ag47 already having experience working with young folks however, we do provide training and require background checks as well.
We currently host our workshops at 3325 W. Wrightwood Ave (this space is accessible).
Our mission statement:
Ag47 knows that young folks creative voices should be amplified and their stories shared. The collective achieves this through artistic collaboration and one-to-one mentorship between youth artists and adult mentors. Ag47 prioritizes and strives to lift up the voices of those seeking brave space through creativity and community. By encouraging each other to take risks, ask questions, and present work to a public audience, AG47 provides youth with the chance to be heard and their communities with the chance to listen.
