Marble House Project Open Call: Multidisciplinary Artist Residency

Marble House Project seeks applications for the 2018 Artist Residency Program.

Marble House Project is a multidisciplinary artist residency that fosters collaboration, sustainability, and community. Each year we host six three-week sessions and one two-week family friendly session for parent artists. Our aim is to provide space for artists and thinkers across all disciplines to work and live side by side. The various communal activities facilitate exchange and collaboration, and the private studios support the artist practice.

We value establishing a community of artists within the residency, and expanding it by inviting artists to share their work through our local public programs. We focus on sustainability by minimizing waste, conserving our natural resources, and integrating small-scale organic food production into our program. Artists-in-residence cook together and are encouraged to help in the garden. Alumni often sustain relationships developed here and find future collaborators among the artists in their session.

Cost: No program fee. The residency includes housing, food, and studio space.

Application Fee: $30

Number of Artists: 7-9 artists per session.

Length of Stay: Three weeks for the Artist Residency; two weeks for the Family Friendly Residency.

Demographic/Medium: Our application is open to all creative fields. Artists in the following disciplines, and beyond, are encouraged to apply: visual arts, writing/research, music, dance/choreography, film, culinary arts. American and international artists at any stage in their career may apply.

Accommodations: Marble House Project provides private bedrooms, food, and individual studio spaces. Some rooms have private baths. We have one accessible live/work space, please contact us for more information. Five outbuildings on the property house our nine studio spaces. Studios include a dance studio with radiant, sprung floors; a music studio; six multi-use studios; and a chef kitchen. A restored, historic barn is used as our community event space.

The 38-acre property also features two stone swimming quarries, hiking trails, and an organic garden. The garden provides food for our residents, and is just one of our sustainability initiatives, fundamental to our mission.

Benefits: Private studio space; room and board; organized public programs and optional video documentation including open studios, readings, performances, and farm to table culinary events; optional field trips to MASS MoCA, the Dorset Farmer's Market, and local hikes; weekly trips to town.
