Lillstreet’s Rooftop Gallery is seeking proposals for it’s 2018 season!
Artists are invited to propose work to be installed onto four, 9-foot flag poles on top of Lillstreet’s rooftop deck and garden. Flags as well as alternative installation proposals will be considered. Work can be seen from the CTA Montrose Brown Line elevated tracks and Metra Train tracks, as well as Montrose and Ravenswood Avenues. Installations rotate approximately every six weeks. Six artists will be chosen and each artist will be paid $110 for their participation. Photo documentation will be provided by Lillstreet, as well as opening receptions and opportunities to sell work in Lillstreet's gallery shop. All work will be featured and archived on the Lillstreet gallery website and advertised in the gallery shop for the duration of the installation. Deadline: January 15th. Proposals will be reviewed and selected by Textiles Department Director Nora Renick Rinehart and a curatorial team of Lillstreet administrators.
Lillstreet’s Rooftop Gallery presents a unique opportunity to exhibit fine art outside of the four-white-walls paradigm. However, the logistics of the space offer as many challenges as exciting possibilities. In an attempt to help prepare artists as much as possible, the curatorial team has put together The Rooftop Gallery Guide 2018: a pdf document with FAQs, material recommendations, logistical specifications and, new this year, a whole section devoted to “Crafting a Successful Proposal.” We encourage you to read through this guide before submitting your application.
