The Chicago Onscreen Local Film Showcase is a project of the Chicago Park District. As part of Movies in the Parks, we bring locally-made and Chicago-focused films to local parks for free, outdoor screenings, addling local flavor to a favorite summertime program and connecting Chicago residents with Chicago films and filmmakers. In our first four years, we’ve presented more than 60 Chicago films in 25 parks across the city to more than 2,000 audience members.
Our fifth year will include our usual host of neighborhood park screenings as well as a weekend-long multi-screen festival in one of Chicago’s largest, most historic and most beautiful parks (no spoilers just yet on that location). We’re excitedly looking forward to another crop of amazing hometown, homegrown films to share with our audiences in this expanded season and are looking for submissions from any and all Chicago-based filmmakers.
We’re currently accepting submissions for our milestone fifth-anniversary season, through December 15. Submission is free and selected filmmakers will be awarded an honorarium up to $500. Submission information and guidelines are available at bit.ly/COS18.
