AV 72 Chicagois the first SSA in the Austin Community. SSA’s are Business Improvement Districts that reinvest tax dollars into a community through enhanced services to supplement and/or complement existing city services. The Beautification Program is an initiative open to property owners along the AV 72 corridor, focused to street facing windows/entry ways, or boarded up properties in need of improvement. Culturally relevant creations will aesthetically aid the village path by replacing deteriorating and unkempt building facades. Learn more here ( www.av72chicago.com)
The AV 72 Beautification Program is seeking artists to submit their work for public display. A cohesive appearance will be brought along the corridor using their pieces as the conduit. Submissions should arrive in digital format, or be easily transferable to digital format. Selected art will be brought to print on vinyl banners, or an alternative medium used to cover doors, windows, and any other components to a property’s exterior necessary to enhance the aesthetics along AV 72.
This year’s theme is Black Culture and Community, with Black folks of both ancient and modern times. As AV 72 Chicago is home to Mandela Road, submissions that incorporate cultural representation across continents (i.e. Africa and North America ) are encouraged. AV 72 is uniformity -not monotony; while separate pieces will be submitted, they should all be unified under this central theme.
Artists should submit at least two high resolution renditions, marked beautification image_ARTIST-NAME to the review committee. In addition to this, a brief artist statement, along with any relevant portfolio items that give insight into the artistic approach should be included. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted for review.
1. Two high resolution artistic pieces for consideration as banners. These submissions must have ‘beautification image’ in the title as well as your name.
EXAMPLE: “beautification image_Artist Name”
2. Relevant portfolio of work
3. Short description of the artist
4. Estimated cost of each piece
