Hello! My name is Jaq Seifert and I am a trans/non-binary performance artist and fight choreographer in the Chicago area. I am currently in the search for an animator to collaborate with myself and a 3D-projection mapper on a production entitled Queero: Monomyth. Queero is an investigation of the connections between fighting and queerness using the Hero’s Journey as a scaffolding for storytelling, incorporating theatrical violence, projection mapping, text, and movement to physicalize, reenact, and travel through the oppression of queer folk, combatting systems of oppression and leading to acceptance and triumph.
The animator will play a pivotal role in the creation of the story, as the story will be choreographed between a live actor and the animation, which is to be projected all around the space. Movements include, but may not be limited to, theatrical violence, monster creation, and scenic elements. The type of artist I am seeking is someone who is interested in collaborating with an extended timeline (first iteration of a 20 minute segment to be performed in October 2018, final performance of 75 minutes in length projected to be completed in February of 2020), who has a love and passion for mythology, monsters, swords, knights, hero tales, and finding new ways of combining theatrical performance with technology. This project is partially supported by an Individual Artists Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, a state agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. There is pay!
If you are interested in speaking further about working on this, please send me a little blurb about what draws you to the production to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. A Pinterest board with image ideas and inspirations has been created at https://www.pinterest.com/jaqseifert/queero-monomyth/
