Creating New Relationships & Art Through Collaboration

I started pulling prints for artists when I was an undergrad. Initially,
I was all about getting the printing experience, but then it was more
about the spirit of collaboration. Creating a new relationship is what
it’s all about for me. My drawing, printmaking, painting, and ceramics is inspired by the history of art and the connection art has to people and objects.

Thomas Lucas received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and his BFA in Printmaking at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. He has taught at Tyler School of Art, SAIC, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Anchor Graphics, The Museum of Contemporary Art, and elsewhere. Thomas’s Visiting Artist Residencies include Penn State, University of  Notre Dame, Harold Washington College, The David Driskell Residency at EPI–Laffayette College, Easton Pennsylvania, and SkopArt in Skopelos, Greece. His awards include three C.A.A.P Grants, Gibbs Foundation Project Grant, and Dew Foundation. He was the former Visual Arts Chair at The Chicago Academy for the Arts and is now the Director of Printmaking at Lillstreet Art Center. He is also the Founder and Master Printer at Hummingbird Press (also at Lillstreet). His  artworks are included in various private and public collections and he exhibits nationally and abroad. See his work during Chicago Artists Month at the South Side Community Art Center as part of WPA 2.0, a brand new deal.
