We began collaborating when we got married in the summer of 2008. We
realized in our own solo work that we weren’t taking many risks, so we
made a point to try anything and everything in our art making. We test
and experiment, and all of the failed ideas and projects drive our
practice to new levels.
Sarah Belknap and Joseph Belknap are Chicago-based artists and designers (as well as married couple and collaborators) who make work that is in the world and about the world. Both Sarah and Joseph Belknap received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and are the founders of their own design firm, Iamhome. Their most recent exhibitions include The Precession at the Hyde Park Art Center; Chicago; Action! at the Chicago Art Department; and Disabling Conditions, as part of Site Unseen at the Chicago Cultural Center. Sarah and Joseph were recently accepted into BOLT Residency, a year-long artist residency and initiative of the Chicago Artists’ Coalition. Their work can be seen during Chicago Artists Month at the Bolt Residency Open Studio Tour. More info.
