Conversations with CAR | Steve Marquette
A collaboration with StoryCorps Chicago
The Chicago Artists Resource has teamed up with StoryCorps Chicago to bring you "Conversations with CAR". Through this collaboration with StoryCorps, the Chicago Artists Resource interviews Chicago-based artists about their personal experiences and their impact on their creative practice.
This week's featured artist is Steve Marquette.
Guitarist, improviser, and composer Steve Marquette (b.1987) is an active member of Chicago's vibrant free jazz and improvised music communities. Marquette's primary Chicago project is the acoustic string trio The Few with violinist / vocalist Macie Stewart and Charlie Kirchen. The trio has toured the U.S, collaborated with Ken Vandermark and will be releasing their debut recording on Marquette's Two Cities record label in December 2016. In an effort to foster greater interaction and collaboration between both cities , Marquette works extensively with musicians in New Orleans - first leading his own quintet and currently with the large ensemble the Instigation Orchestra. The Instigation Orchestra will also be working with Marie Casimir's Djaspora dance collective as part of an ongoing project exploring sound and movement between Haiti, New Orleans, and Chicago.
