Propeller Fund is accepting applications

Funding for Chicago artists, curators and visual arts groups

Gallery 400 at the University of Illinois at Chicago and threewalls announce a call for applications to the Propeller Fund, entering its fourth year as a granting opportunity for independent visual artists, curators, and visual arts groups in Cook County, IL. Applications are due August 1, 2013, with 15 grantees announced in October 2013. A total $50,000 will be disbursed in 2013.

"David Salle: Ghost Paintings," features selections from a series of previously unexhibited works made in 1992. The Arts Club will exhibit a selection from the series of 14 canvases from 14 May - 10 August 2013. Public open house on 18 May 2013 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, with a gallery talk by the curator and Chicago artist Gaylen Gerber at 1:00 pm.

Bodies of Work first launched in 2006 as a unique cross-disciplinary event, and the festival continues to challenge and provoke with transformative work in theater, dance, literature, poetry, film, visual art, and sound performance.

Generation L will be hosting the first in a series of free Voguing workshops on Friday, May 17th from 6 - 8pm at Batey Urbano in Humboldt Park. This movement event will focus not only on the foundations of this popular dance style vogue, but also examine its relation to the history of ballroom scenes and connections to Black and Brown queer people, poor and working folks, homeless people, sex workers, and trans people. The workshops will continue throughout the summer on the third Friday of the month.
